Your Word is Your Wand

Soft Boundaries Start With Kept Promises

A few years ago, my coach called me the f*ck out.

I'd told him I’d get back to him Friday.
Then Monday.
Then Wednesday rolled in, still no update.

He sent me a message I’ll never forget:

“Mary-Anne, I just want to point out as your coach - you promised Friday. Then Monday. It’s now Wednesday. Do you often have a problem keeping the deadlines you set for yourself?”

Oof.
My ego flared. I was fuming.
Offended. Pissed off.
How dare he make me feel like sh*t?

But the truth?

He didn’t.

He reflected the truth I’d been avoiding.
And it stung, because it was spot on.

I had been breaking promises to myself.

Tiny ones. Constantly.
"I'll message them later."
"I'll go to the gym tomorrow."
"I’ll definitely start that thing on Monday."

Postponed. Pushed back. Ghosted by my own word.

And every time I did?
My nervous system learnt: “We don’t follow through. We’re not safe here.”

That moment cracked something open.

I made a new vow.
If I said it — I meant it.
If I promised — I kept it.
If I couldn’t commit — I didn’t say yes.

From there? Everything shifted.

🌸 Friendships deepened.
🌸 My business stabilised.
🌸 My self-trust skyrocketed.

Because when you honour your word — you honour you.

You tell your body:
“I’m safe. I’m sovereign. I trust myself to show up.”

So here’s your mirror:

Are you keeping promises to everyone but you?
Do you say “I’ll do it tomorrow” and never actually do?

If so, no shame.
Just awareness.
Just choice.

Because your word isn’t just language.
It’s frequency.
It’s a f*cking spell.

Every promise you keep is a breadcrumb back to radical self-trust.

Start small.
Start sacred.
Let your word become your wand.

OFH invitation:
What’s one tiny promise you can keep to yourself today?

You’ll be amazed how quickly your life will rise to meet it.
